Holistic Design

Design beyond the surface

While philosophical, I don’t see design as a straight line. To me it’s more like a conversation between users, context and technology.

Holistic design to me means stepping back before zooming in and understanding the whole system before shaping the details. Form and screen matters, but behavior, environment and its constraints matter just as much. (Sometimes more)

Working across context

My projects live in many shapes and scales.
Some have been immersive and spatial, while others; quite, functional and technical.

I have experience designing for:

  • VR/AR/XR Experiences – Where spatial differs from traditional design thinking
  • 2D and 3D interfaces – How to guide users in a natural flow
  • Tools for developers and technical users – Adaptability across disciplines
  • Products for first-time users and non-experts – Systems everyone should be able to benefit from

Different platforms, different people, but same focus: clarity, intention and usability.

Approaching problems

It is impossible to start with solutions, a project usually starts with questions and patterns.

My process has been flexible, but few things always guide the workflow:

  • Listening before drawing
  • Framing the problem, not just the feature
  • Exploring ideas quickly and killing your darlings
  • Letting constraints shape better decisions
